Residents enjoy improved route along upgraded Kommetjie Road

26 February 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate successfully completed a major upgrade project along Kommetjie Road at the end of 2025. Since its completion, the City has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from residents and road users who are already experiencing the benefits of this improved route. Read more below:

The upgrade covered the stretch between Capri Drive and Wood Road, just past Masiphumelele. Additional lanes were introduced to help ease congestion during peak travel times, particularly for those commuting between Kommetjie, Ocean View, Imhoff’s Gift, Heron Park, Masiphumelele, Sunnydale and surrounding areas.

‘We’ve significantly improved capacity along the eastbound lanes and upgraded key intersections and access points into Masiphumelele, including Chasmay Road, Pokela Road and Lekkerwater Road. Importantly, the project also extended the cycle lanes along Kommetjie Road and through major intersections. This supports safer cycling and encourages it as a practical, alternative mode of transport in the valley especially during busy commuter periods. This is another important step in keeping our communities moving safely and efficiently as we continue to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City thanks all residents and road users in the Kommetjie area for their patience and understanding while this critical upgrade project was under way. With your cooperation, the teams were able to complete these major works successfully.
